Due to the holidays, we weren't planning on holding the Convergence! meeting this month BUT ... the Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society at Metro State has decided to "sponsor" the event on Friday, December 19th.

The idea of "Convergence!" is to bring people together who have "weather" as a common interest, whether this be storm chasers, meteorologists/professionals, spotters, hobbyists, students, etc.

Marta Nelson, the current president of Metro State's S.C.A.M.S., has secured a large room at the school's historic Tivoli Student Union Building. She has offered the opportunity for people to present any thing of meteorological interest (storm chasing, etc) and also will have room for you to sell chase DVDs.

As of now, there isn't a specific certainty on the "food" situation. There was talk of some sort of catering and asking for donations at the door, but I also heard talk of a pot-luck. I'll add details as they become available.

So, here's the event information:

Date: Friday, December 19, 2008
Time: 5:30pm - 10:00pm
Location: Historic Tivoli; Room 440, Auraria Campus
Street: Auraria Parkway
City/Town: Denver, CO

If you want to present video/photos or sell anything, please e-mail Marta Nelson at [email protected] ... it also wouldn't hurt to R.S.V.P. to her so she can plan the food situation.

PS: I encourage any of you in other cities to create a Convergence! of your own. I have had nothing but fun at our previous two meetings and the networking has been great.

I should elaborate on this by saying that there is room to sell items so long as a portion of the proceeds go to the Metro Student Chapter of the AMS as this is mainly a fund-raising event for the department.

I will be selling my DVDs there with a portion of the proceeds going to the department. We should also have some of the weather calenders and a few other items for sale as well, so definitely come on by if you're in the neighborhood! Should be tons of fun!!! :)
