• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Hey Y'all. Just got some slightly low-down on the COMET / COMIT programme that NWS is working on for informational educational purposes.

Twould appear to be intertwined with classes and trainings, with reference materials involved.

This would update trainings to live videos and intstruction identification and such to go along with reference.

Not all worked out yet. But if I find more. I will let yall know.

Would you be referring to this? If so, it's not new.

The program was established in 1989. I'm not sure how long the modules and other training resources have been available online and to the public, but I've been using them for the last 3 or 4 years. The material is awesome, and it's freely available to anyone, meteorologist or otherwise. You need only register for login purposes. Quizes are also available and completion can be submitted to employers/managers for those working in the met industry.

If you were referring to something else, check out UCAR's COMET program anyway. It's just one more learning resource, and IMHO it's excellent!

We had to do COMET back in 1993 when we were getting WSR-88D certification. It was a big part of getting forecasters up and running on how to use velocity data, as it was all new technology and of course no university weather programs I'm aware of had taught any subject areas like that. At the time COMET users had to have a DOS PC with a special video card, and that had to be attached to a laserdisc player for the video lessons! It's great what the Internet has done since then.

The quality of COMET is hit or miss, but I definitely recommend it.

Tim
