• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Close-Up: Monster Funnel

Hate to break it to ya, but that is not a tornado. It is just a large supercell with the appearence it is on the ground due to its circular nature of the cloud giving it the illusion it is close to the ground when in reality it is just as high up as the clouds next to the photogrpaher. The foreground doesn't help either with no ability to see what is happening on the ground. I've seen this picture all over the place, but it is nothing but a pretty storm.

LOL-ok, then Yahoo messed up. Guess I deserve a "dummy smack"! :o

Thats an interesting image, but it has me wondering if it's a fake. It kinda looks like a shelf cloud on the ground. Looks like they took a picture of a shelf cloud then digitally lowered the shelf cloud to the ground. Anyone care to chime in? If it is a tornado, it's a very good picture.

Hmmm...something else...the lack of debris & dust? Even if this wasn't quite touching the ground yet, wouldn't we be seeing debris/dust of some sort?

I didn't pay much attention to the thread discussing the picture, but a friend sent me the link to the "incredible tornado picture". Here was my reply, FWIW:

Great picture, xxxxx!

However as far as I can tell, this is very low-hanging condensation cloud. The Storm Prediction Center archives storm reports, and the records (hail reports -- no tornados) almost certainly applying to this storm on the evening of 6/10 are:

0130 100 10 W OSAGE MITCHELL IA 4328 9301 (ARX)
0156 175 5 NE OSAGE MITCHELL IA 4333 9274 (ARX)

The first number is UTC time, with Iowa being UTC-5hrs; the second is the hail size in inches; then the town location; then the county and state. If the picture was actually taken at 0204Z from Orchard than it would be of the above storm moving away. The backshear of the cloud top and the apparent wind direction from the flag are consistent. From the account as I read it, no one reported actually seeing a tornado, or suffering tornado-like damage.

Does anybody else look at the picture and see a mouth with a tounge sticking out of it? I have a perfect caption to go with the picture. "The Silos, they has a flavur"

If you took away the building and the trees I bet the base is still a ways away. You can see a lighter color just above one of the trees indicating the base is probably right there. Obviously can't tell for sure, but if you remove all that stuff in the foreground with your imagination you can sort of picture a low hanging wall cloud/meso.

Looks like 5000 CAPES and 60 kts. of deep shear to me....love the flag ripping into it to the supercell. Seen all kinds of places mentioned as to where this occurred...latest one was June 10th in Orchard IA. Does anybody know the exact answer....or is this the FL waterspout-lightning image ??
