CHICAGO — Chicago’s latest snowfall on Wednesday night and Thursday officially totaled 5.7 inches at O’Hare International Airport, this city’s official weather site. That brought the snowfall total for this February to 26.4 inches, the third highest total for the month dating back to the start of the city’s snowfall climatology in the winter of 1884-85.

A typical February sees 9.1 inches of snow. This month has seen nearly three times that normal amount.

The only February’s with more snow were 29.0 inches in 2011 (Ground Hog Day Blizzard) and in 1896 when 27.8 inches fell.

More snow is expected Saturday evening into Sunday and if an additional 1.5 inches should fall at O’Hare by midnight this February would move into second place.
