Caught on Tape: Long Island, NY Waterspout

I believe this occured last Wednesday, 9/27. It was an interesting setup along the shores of Long Island Sound. Cold air aloft over warm sound waters. In the early afternoon I went outside and noticed some amazing towers going up along the shore. The sky was free of haze and the clouds had sharp, distinct edges. We typically see very hazy skies when there is strong convection.

Here is the special weather statement that came from the Upton, NY NWS:

Not really, winds are generally 30-50mph tops (most on the low side) and most damage is at worst an outhouse tipped...

Most waterspouts are relatively weak, however, Golden (1977) has measured maximum rotational winds as high as 190 knots in Florida Keys waterspouts.

Good day,

I could not resists seeing the video of a small boat chasing a waterspout in Destin, FL coastal waters (link below)...

What are these people even thinking about?

Sorry about the exasperation but ... They are driving their boat not only in close persuit of it (like within feet) but THROUGH it!!

They lived because this was a WEAK waterspout, and it was not intensifying.

I smell "Darwin Awards" entry n + 1
