Had a significant storm here in Canberra a couple of days ago. Canberra is the capital of Australia, analogous to Washington DC. It's a small city by US standards, about 400,000 population, but probably one of the most spread out cities in the world, its dimensions being 30 miles by 10 miles, approximately. The significance of this storm was how it affected all of this relatively large area, the large number of lightning strikes (8,000) and about 1.5 to 2 inches of rain from the storm across all of the city. A small tornado was reported from the north western suburbs and I was lucky enough to position myself to photograph the storm as it came in with a nice wall/funnel and updraft/meso present.

The storm just about to hit my position

I was UNLUCKY enough to miss this storm...I was suckered by an earlier developing storm in clear sunshine ahead of the main line. I had no radar access this day, but saw the above storm (post above) from a distance but simply could not mow it down.

Consolation prize however was a very lightning active line that moved through on dusk.

The second half of the video below shows this second line. My Sony 760 did well considering it was well after sunset.
