• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Can a wx radio be cute? And other gift ideas.

I found a weather radio that actually qualifies as cute and just bought one for a chaser friend.

It is a little red box, and it runs on batteries, so it would be easy to place next to the bed in the motel rooms too.

I love this product:
The Weather Cube...shaped like a red box (red boxes=good), is a fun gift I found at Radio Shack.

Do you have cool (or cute) wx gadget gift ideas?

Not to stray too far off topic here...

Hey Jason, I moved out here to CO two years ago from Manhattan where I worked at KSU for three years, and was the coordinator of the local "Skywarn" group before I left. If you're a ham, and you're not already involved, check out the WARN group for the Manhattan area to get involved.

As for the thoughts on SAME technology, I disagree, hence the reason I asked the question. As a great gift idea, it's likely to be given to someone who isn't a wx nut. Just wanted to clarify before someone ran out to buy it as a gift, and was then disappointed.

DeLorme state maps make a nice gift for a chaser. Most people use GPS, but it's still nice to become familiar with the terrain while waiting for initiation.

Thank you for this thread Susan. I went out and picked up 2 of them for people I know who are not weather weenies and need a simple yet effective radio! The 10 dollar sale made it that much better.

Yes they are fun, especially for the casual NOAA listener, or in my case, I like to have a wx radio in every room so they make a nice addition. No substitute for scanner or wx channel or mobile device for chasing but the Cubes are fun and pick up the signal well, at least mine does.

The battery door was a little sticky but once I got it closed the Cube works well.

I wonder if they are still $10. Glad you got the deal. The regular price was $24.99. Ten dollars is a bargain for it.
