"Black Swan" Hurricanes?

Cat6 hasn't come up because it's not needed. For the same reason we don't need EF6 tornadoes :)

I don't recall seeing a theoretical max wind speeds for hurricanes though.
 
Yeah, sure, there could be a particularly intense category 5 hurricane that contains winds that in areas could exceed 200 mph in brief bursts...maybe once every 200 years. So?

Yes. Those were the days, like learning how to plot upper air charts from raw data and making forecast maps for chasing long before there was internet data. My Skywarn was my mentor at the NWS in Tucson and the Atmospheric Sciences Library at the University of Arizona.:confused:
