• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Anybody use one of these?

Let us know how it works, Bryan. I'd probably be interested if they do a good job, especially for those instances with a lot of wind like when the camera is outside on a moving vehicle.

They didnt offer their StormChaser version for my application, and that is supposed to handle 30 mph winds. So i guess we'll see how the normal version works when i get it.

My windcutter arrived the other day. I got a chance to put it on today. It makes the camera look like it has a goatee or soul patch. lol. I haven't done much testing yet other than in front of a fan. There is NO wind noise at all with the camera about 4" away from my fan on high-speed, which according to my kestrel is 12.8 mph. I'll try to get some real tests done in the next couple days or so, but so far, I'm impressed.

I'll update this when I do more testing.

I was looking into getting one of these as well. One thing I cannot stand in video is wind noise. Some cameras are way worse than others and there have been times I just had to turn down or even mute the TV when watching chaser DVDs because the wind noise is just too awful. Ill probably order one at the end of this month, for 15 bucks it would be worth it to even have a slight wind noise reduction. My only concern would be the rest of the audio being a little mufled.

Adam,

From my (limited) testing so far, normal audio doesn't seem to be affected much at all. It still comes through loud and clear. Please post when you get yours and have a chance to try it out.

Do these help, YES. Don't expect your wind noise to be eliminated. Storm chasers are in winds stronger than these are designed for. They are made for light winds. Even the "Storm Chaser" model has a point where it just won't do any better. Should you get one, probably - but don't be disappointed to find you still have wind noise.

I'm well aware that there's a point where this won't help anymore, but up to that point, it works very well to reduce wind noise. Well worth the $15.
