• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

    I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

    For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

    From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

Another chaser accident

Hearing rumors of another chaser accident near Paducah TX. Ambulance was called to the scene. Dont think its as serious as the last one but hoping everyone is ok!
 
My friends and chase partners Bill and Chris Robertson from Albuquerque were one of the two vehicles involved. They are apparently both okay. I was their nowcaster and spoke with Bill right after it happened, but I didn't want to be the one starting this thread, as you can imagine.

Bill told me there were broken bones involved, but apparently no life-threatening injuries. They were northbound on a dirt road and the other vehicle westbound when at a blind intersection the accident occured. There was a "roadside assistance" vehicle there pretty quickly. Bill said their Honda minivan is destroyed.
 
Maybe we need to start advocating back-road driving safety tips during storm chasing more frequently. If both were dirt roads there may not have been any stop or yield signs. People may be unaware that intersections like that exist, and don't realize they need to slow down and yield.

I don't know if this intersection had any signage at all. Chasers definitely need to be aware of these kinds of situations though.
 
Just to remind everyone that locals also do this, not just chasers. I talked with my chase partners last night and the idea is to stop or slow at any intersection where there is not 100% visibility in all directions. In most alley locations this is not a problem as the visibility is 100%. I honestly believe this non-stopping stupidity has become a part of chasing and it needs to be addressed.
 
I can vouch for the fact that rural intersections without stop signs are fairly common in the Plains and Midwest. There are several here in Illinois with both roads paved and 55mph.

Since the March fatal accident, I have been paying attention to what happens at rural stop signs here in Illinois, and most everyone runs the signs with little to no slowing down due to the fact that you can see for miles in all directions. I will probably shoot a video of this.

Again, I'm not suggesting that chasers shouldn't be careful, but as Warren pointed out, this isn't a chaser-only problem.

They're all over the place in Eastern CO. I always slow down. In some instances, you can see by dust trails that vehicles are coming, but either way, I slow way down or stop. Stopping is usually a non-issue because these roads maybe see one or two cars a day. I'd just rather they not meet at an intersection at speed.

I almost never go down a dirt road for a few reasons, but mainly because you might not know what is ahead of you...like a flash flood, or a dead end, or so much sloppy mud that a mudding truck might have trouble. I am not talking about the straight roads that you can see for miles, but sometimes the condition of the road is not definable until you are on it. I know this from experience. Getting stuck on a rural road with an approaching tornado is NOT worth it.

Hey, Dan. The third accident was south of Quanah. We saw it directly in front of us and caught it on stream.
Not sure if it was a chaser. But this guy was driving wither drunk or distracted. I told my partner to let him by because of it. He was all over the road crossing the lines multiple times. Came to a stop light and he was stopped and for whatever reason just floored it into the back of another pickup. He was in a silver RAM I believe it was
