Details are slim still, but it was just announced this afternoon that current AMS president Matthew J. Parker passed away Wednesday night (3/15).
Current president-elect Roger Wakimoto will take over as the acting president for the remainder of the term (this year).
Matthew J. Parker was 53.

Note, this is not the same Matt Parker who has published many papers in convective storm organization and dynamics over the years (and who also inspired the VBV impacts on supercells thread I started a few weeks ago). That person is Matthew D. Parker of Colorado State University.
