I promise I have no affiliation with them, but I have ordered a bunch of stuff there and always had a great experience (although I usually have to wait a week for Ground shipping since they are across the country).

I realize this may not be ideal, but it definitely may be an option for some.

The mount is sold by itself too.

They even make a case to carry/travel.

If anyone picks one of these up, I would definitely appreicate if you could share your experience here. Thanks!!

Looks pretty sweet wonder how well it would stay with those mag mounts.I would hate to have that come crashing down or falling off in traffic.

Seems kind of flunky to me, the anemometer and wind vane looks like they're from those toy weather stations that you can buy for kids. I certainly wouldn't waste $500 on that.

Anyone have any experience with the new Davis Vue? I am considering getting a weatherstation and I cannot decide whether to get the Vue or VantagePro2. Opinions anyone?

I maybe incorrect , but I believe Bart Comstock had one of these on top his Jeep at the Chaser Car Show this year at oun ? It looked like a nice setup .

I'm going to get the Vue for Christmas, it is basically the same as the Pro 2 but you just can't add additional sensor to it, and that's about it. Also if you plan to use it for chasing storms I would go with the Vue rather then the Pro 2 because the Vue is about $100-$150 cheaper then the Pro 2 and if you get in to some big hail I would rather have the cheap one get destroyed. As for the car mount, you can make that yourself for a lot less, Benjamin Rock and me made a mobile weather station for his car and used 4 magnets, a cutting board as the base, and some L brackets from the hardware store all for around $30.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the car mount. The website even gives you a nice big picture of it, so duplicating it even using the exact materials they use would be so much cheaper. That's the road I'm taking!

Thanks for the advice...

Another question: I am going to go with the Vue I think. The choice now is should I get the Vue with the Vue console or the Vue with the VantagePro2 console?

Here they are to look at. The Vue with the VantagePro2 console is like $13 more or so.

pretty much couldn't be any worse from a setup point of view unless the measure is intended to be taken from a vehicle that is stationary for days.

1. no way to automatically identify North thus you have to always park directly north
2. no way to subtract motion from wind measurement
3. pressure/temp too close to the roof of the car
..etc..

if you're willing to spend $500 on this and can wait until 2011...we're trying to build a mobile mesonet for around the price that actually is designed for chasers.

Anyone know how much wattage we're talking about to run one of these? I'd think it isn't much though.

Edit: Looks like it is solar powered, but it does come with a power adapter

It has a battery and the solar panel charges a capacitor not the battery, when the capacitor is fully charged then the station uses that energy. The battery will last about 8 months with no sun light, an 1-2 years with sun.

I have the Vue installed on the roof of my home. I love it; very nice, accurate, easy to set up and (relatively) inexpensive. However, sitting on my roof is very different than having it on a car, truck or SUV. Tyler pointed out some of the problems with a mobile unit compared to a home unit and I think he is right.

Take care...Bill Robertson
