Come on guys! I'm just getting into the buisness but storm chasing severe weather is really great. If you guys could just post little important tidbits in the thread thatd be great.

Thanks!

What kind of "important tidbits" are you looking for? There's a wealth of information in this forum, the result of the myriad of excellent chasers we have on board. I'm sure folks will contribute, though, if you have more specific questions.

As Connor suggested, you're best bet is probably to search the forum and read through the Education Forum threads. Of course, asking questions is always a good way to learn as well! :-)

weird

I'm new too and I have been a member of another forum (non weather related) that also uses this exact same format but for some reason on here I can't find the search function anywhere. I'm just a basic member, does that have anything to do with it? I don't see it across the top of any page when I am on this forum

I can't find the search function anywhere.

Blue header line under your user name, third link from the right.

This is where I would start. It's done wonders for me.

This site from U of Ill. has some awesome info as well.

The SkyWarn spotter guide site also will give you some great tips.

The online Tornado FAQ from the SPC is a wealth of info.

Reading through this checklist will give you a good handle on what to look for in analyzing the data that you can find.

The NWS also has this site that is a good, basic atmospheric education site.

And last, but certainly not least, is the StormTrack library, where you will find a wealth of great information organized by topic.

Enjoy!

Hi Nick,

I was in your position about 6 months ago and I can assure you that this forum is priceless, not only for the information found directly within the threads but also from a fantastic number of links suggested by knowledgable people, as you have seen.

Another site that I found particularly useful was an educational website called MetEd. It is free to register and the information is modular based. There was a link to it a few months back.

http://www.meted.ucar.edu

The accompanying illustrations are fantastic and there is the opportunity to test your knowledge with an end of module test. I have now completed most of the modules within 'Summer Severe Weather' under the 'Convective Weather' topic and am hoping to put this knowledge to good use during my first chase trip this year.

Have fun learning.

Here is a little site I put together for chasers from basic to advanced levels with everything in between. To me, it's a fairly good "resources site" for learning.

CHASER EDUCATION LINKS

The blue header across the top of my screen (just under my username) from left to right lists "User CP, FAQ/Rules, Community, Calendar, Quick Links, then Log Out"...and this is when I am logged in. Something is up but I don't know what. There is no "search" label anywhere. I have the most updated version of firefox too so I don't think its my browser.
