With the first pretty decent tornado chase day for 2026 already documented in IN/IL this week and a winter "bomb cyclone" expected to affect the New England coastal states this weekend, the unusually warm weather in Florida (up to 88 degrees east of Tampa today) got me thinking about the upcoming spring tornado and summer/fall tropical seasons...the annual "chase fever" ritual so many ST readers are used to experiencing this time of year!

In doing some Googling today, I ran across a news release from February 12th by Wallace Hogsett, the National Hurricane Center's Science Operations Officer, about how artificial-intelligence learning from the 2024 and 2025 NHC experimental models is being incorporated into the NHC's "toolbox" for future hurricane forecasting, including for the 2026 tropical season in the Atlantic basin.
