I recently asked a friend who's a computer graphics/animation pro (worked as NASA chief graphics animator, now with an international cable/satellite broadcast channel) what would be a good piece of inexpensive software that would allow me to make an occasional flyer or other simple graphic with photos, logos, some fonts, etc.

A week later, he handed me a factory sealed box entitled Adobe Video Collection/Professional that had been supplied to him on a previous job and never used. Since he's a Mac guy, he didn't need it.

So--just what did I inherit here, besides stuff that goes way beyond my depth in computer ops? On the box, it lists Encore, After Effects Pro, Audition, Photoshop (this is somewhat familiar), Premier Pro and Color Finesse. Anyone here have experience with these softwares?

Thanks--and a belated Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Dave -

I think you're looking for a program like Print Shop. This program is very user-friendly and quite inexpensive. This one was listed for 49.99 but I bet you could find one cheaper if you look around.

Good luck...

Ha! That's funny what Dennis said. Yeah, sounds like he was given a bunch of nothing software huh? That's a hoot.

You have quite a bit of top of the line stuff there. If you learn how to use it, you'll be able to crank out some incredible stuff- not just fliers. Enjoy! You really do have some great software there.

Are you joking? That is an amazing collection of photo and video editing software. The learning curve is a bit steep especially for audition. There are whole courses and seminars devoted to those programs. You can create amazing web vides and DVD's. Make sure you computer can handle the prgrams. You've got a nice opportunity to really let loose your creative energies. Thos programs in total retail for over $1000.

Thanks, all of you---I am a bit overwhelmed to recognize the extent of this gift. My ignorance, which should be obvious by this thread, will have to move over and make room for some education on all these programs, probably one at a time.

BTW, I am not sure if the correct spelling for paper ads is 'fliers' or 'flyers,' but either way, here in north Alabama they are called 'flahrs.'

That's an awesome find. I was pricing the CS4 master suite the other day...yeah, 2500 dollars.

The student price is 999. That's worth anyone enrolling in community college for!

That'll be a great setup for graphics, etc. but for doing fliers, you'll likely want to use Microsoft Publisher (starter) or Adobe InDesign (pro level).

Take a course in CS4

Enroll in a course that teaches the programs, and it's that much better.

I've heard that CS4 (via Videomaker Magazine) isn't really a ton better than CS3. If there is a lack of funds, than CS3 might be the better choice.

Dave, if you find the programs going to waste....I'll certainly accept the donation and put them to good use...:)
