This will provide fodder for a lot of photography & photoshop sites/blogs etc. so there should be no shortage of stuff to check out, soon to come. Lightroom 2.0 is $299 (academic pricing is $99).

On one of those pages linked it mentions camera profiles that can be used with that program to start with something close to what the LCD jpg preview showed, when working with RAW. Anyone know of any way to do that with other converters, such as the one canon provides with the camera, digital photo professional? I mean I'd assume that ability is there somewhere since it's their own software and camera. Sooooo often I simply wish I could start with an image that looks like the one on my LCD screen, especially foggy sunrise stuff like the other morning. I get those in the RAW ap and am like, yeah, this is so far from what it looks like on my LCD it's not even funny. Looks almost pastel colored in the raw ap, not smooth and nice like on the LCD at all. Seems like such a simple task for them to include with their own converter. That function alone temps me into buying lightroom, which I have zero need for other than that.

I have been using LR 1.4 on a regular basis as a photography student and I absolutely love it, and I've heard nothing but rave reviews for LR 2.0, so I'm planning on picking up a copy here in the next couple of weeks. Where I'm a student, I happily get to take advantage of the $99 academic price :D

I'll post my own little mini-review on ST once I get it and have time/opportunity to play with it and see if it lives up to all the hype...

There is also a $99 price for the upgrade... Mine is on the way. I really like LR 1.41. It's great from an organizational aspect and also allows the tweaks needed when shooting in RAW and all alterations are non-destructive.

I just picked up Lightroom 2.0 for $99 (upgrade price) and I'm very happy with it. The reason I did the upgrade was exactly for the same reason that Mike was interested in it.

I recently picked up a Canon Rebel XT and had it converted to infrared by Lifepixel. Unfortunately, Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom 1.4 don't recognize Canon's custom white balance. So when the photo comes out of the camera, it has a reddish tint to it. I then have to either process that red out of the photo (pain in the neck) or buy Lightroom 2.0. So I did the latter. I was able to make a custom white balance profile for my camera and it makes life sooo much easier.

If you want to see my infrared pix, just go to my website and click on infrared.

PS: Has anyone shot a storm in infrared? I'm wondering what the outcome would be.....

Mike, if you are most interested in the camera profiles, you can just upgrade Camera Raw to version 4.5 and save a few bucks. I upgraded a few weeks ago and profiled my XTi. I don't have much need for Lightroom at this point but I'm happy that Adobe keeps the same RAW-processing tools in Camera Raw.

Thanks for that info. Appears I'd just have to upgrade to CS3 to be able to do that. I only have CS at the moment. Might be a good excuse to finally upgrade. Upgrading would still be cheaper than lightroom, I think.

Nice infrared images Melanie. I've haven't done a thing with that stuff. I would think someone on here has with a storm though. The HDR and macro stuff is especially interesting. I need to get me one of those macro jobbies.

Mike, I'm honored that you took the time to look at my portfolio and even more honored that you liked them. Thanks. You can pick up a really nice macro for a few hundred dollars on ebay (Canon 100mm f2.8). If you wanted to spend a little more, you could go for the Canon MP-E 65mm macro, which is tons o' fun.

Macros are great for those cold winter days when there's nothing else to shoot!

Thanks again, Mike...
