Never got around to writing anything up for this day. The tornado in the foreground was kicking up a dust whirl for a minute or so. Second and Third tornado of the day. I had my mother with me for this trip and she got to witness her first tornadoes. It was a bit of a Mother's day gift since she had always wanted to tag along. I told her this is like going fishing for the first time and landing a 5 lb bass.

Awesome perspective and photo, Joshua! So far, I think I've only seen one or two other images of that spinup along the gust front of the Sanford tornado (assuming that's the 'Sanford' tornado in the background). That's such a cool view of the dynamics on that storm.

What a beautiful shot. Thanks so much for posting. At the moment this photo was taken, we were sitting directly under the RFD gust front on 156. I was focused on the Sanford tornado, but also on the lookout for little spinups in the gf. I totally missed this and never knew it occurred. How long did the foreground spinup last?

There was a good dust whirl under it for only a minute or so. I'm always torn about positioning... whether to get close or stay back, but this worked out well. It was an awesome sight!

I had yet to see a third tornado from this day, this is the first media that confirms it from other reports I had heard... just incredible look as there's barely any damn updraft to that thing. This day was beyond exceptional and of course Great Shot!

Beautiful shot! Love the colours and drama! Wish we saw more action like that up here in Canada!
