Very surprised at anything noteworthy here in SE Ohio yesterday. A few storms went tor warned to the west around Chillicothe but didn't think much of it. As they progressed to the NE more developed to their SE as they dissipated. Very short lived supercells occured as the built off the outflow boundary from the earlier storms. Didn't even leave campus but went atop the weather lab and watched the next storm go up just to the W/SW. It had a nice rainfree base from its initial development and watched it as it passed just to the N of the city. As it got to our north it really started to organize exhibiting weak rotation with a very broad not well defined mesocyclone and even a few brief wall clouds. The storm did go tornado warned as it doesn't take much to tor warn around these parts but nothing was reported or sighted.
Here is the storm just to the N as it began to organize a mesocyclone at the base of the updraft:
As the storm continued to the NE it began to become pretty photogentic as the towers were evident, shooting all the way up to the anvil rapidly. I haven't seen towers go up this fast since the plains in the spring. Since I didn't expect this I didn't have my good camera and had to use my cell phone and therefore the wall cloud is hard to see at the base, but its there.
Not even a minute later with a better defined meso.
Soon after the line of storms behind the quick sup's moved through presenting this shelf cloud.
After it was all said and done, towers to the east presented a beautiful evening mixing with the rain/snow falling from the top of the storms. Even a few embedded rainbows.
Overall, its August, in Ohio-I'll take it for sure. Wish I could of had my camera but I'll settle for the cell pics as they turned out well. Its a new phone so I'm satisfied with the results.
