Starting the nowcast thread. The area of SE WY, which initially concerned me, appears to be gathering itself together with early high-based convection. As that convection moves east, I expect it will interact with the front. It is also in the small tongue of best Tds. I'm going to hold up in Bridgeport for the moment, offering me the best multidirectional choices in a limited road network.

Also noted that an MCD is out. This does bode well.

Boundaries Showing up on Nexrad

Nexrad radar at Hastings NE is showing the following image. (See below)

It shows the current storms crossing the NE/WY borders. What's interesting is the Nexrad radar is showing a couple of boundaries in central NE. I believe the boundary running SW-NE is the dryline and the boundary bowing W-E is the cold front pushing thru the state.

Second the thought on the MSC discussion going on. Once the intitiation starts along the boundaries, I think the SWW will be posted.

Good Luck Chasers and Vortex2!! :)

On the cluster of storms now over Bridgeport. I think that when this thing hits the sagging cold front, we could be in for a treat. We also may not. But I like how this cluster has held together. Roads are going to be a major issue, though. I may have to sprint north to Alliance to have an EW route.

We drove from Chadron to Alliance to investigate the storm on GRL3 that passed to the south of Alliance and it is nothing to write home about. We're doubling back to Chadron to see the cluster that recently developed and that has a severe thunderstorm warning on it. These are the cells about to enter Harrison County in extreme NW Nebraska. One of them has 2" hail being reported so we're hoping it amounts to more than what we saw in Alliance earlier.

My understanding of the surface features today is that we have a cold front and a surface trough. I believe that's what you're seeing on the KUEX radar.

No kidding. Poof--it was done and gone in 45 mins. Not only are the bases high, but the towers are short. Visually the storm is done.

we've had a good day - currently in Ogalalla Super 8 watching the cell near here - gorgeous lightning and some beautiful pics of the storm/sunset/lightning over the McConough (??) lake near here...

We chased the (what we figured to be) the best storm of the day near Scottsbluff for a good 2 hours and then were defeated by a poor road network...

Still some decent lightning and wind gusts as we checked in to this hotel... hope others have had a good day.
