2025-06-28 EVENT: SD

Surprised no reports from this event on here and only one (@sdienst) from Wellfleet.
SPC's Storm Reports lists 19 total tornado reports, 9 of which were in SD (the rest in ND and MN) on 6/28. The one near Gary (presumably the same one as in the video) occurred at 0147 and "took out a house." There also were two separate reports showing 2 injuries each near Kadoka, SD, one a quarter-mile wide and the other rated EF-2 (not sure whether these were two different reports for the same tornado). Yeah, I agree; this would surely rate as a "major" tornado event.

I heard some comments about Gary 6/28 potentially already exceeding Wellfleet 6/16 as “tornado of the year.” When I did an internet search a day or two after, this was one of the first links that came up. A couple interesting videos embedded, including one by RT and another by Connor Croff. Not sure if these are the same tornado, although my understanding is that CC was right near RT on that same tornado.

They actually collided, the Dominator backed into Connor's vehicle. Apparently no hard feelings about it.

Here are some great videos taken by LSM, Texas Storm Chasers, and StormRunner Media of the Gary, SD, tornado on 06-28-2025...

...not to be outdone by Reed Timmer (as most of you on social media already know; the "-YouTube" video below is really amazing). Too bad Reed did not remain stationary for longer time periods, and had kept his camera trained more often near the ground, as his video would have been excellent for photogrammetry analysis of windspeeds in the debris cloud!
