I spent most of this day watching storms struggle to even produce lightning before the southernmost storm finally began to establish itself. I positioned myself NE of the developing supercell which still appeared ragged as it approached. The massive drawback to chasing in NW Minnesota is that civilization ends in northern Beltrami county north of the Red Lakes with only forest service roads heading into the wilderness so you are on a distance timer as storms head east. With only about 20 miles until the point I would have to let it go the storm ramped up in a hurry and I was able to get deep in the inflow notch. The storm was not quite ready to produce yet sadly and I despaired as my road options came to an end, but then to my surprise I was able to see the now ongoing tornado heading off east into the wilds with a precip free hook so my view was unobstructed. Another good day up here and the best structured storm I have ever seen in this part of Minnesota.
