I opted for the southern target, so no tornadoes here. In fact, I almost had a complete bust, but I salvaged the chase at the last minute.

Storms really struggled to amount to anything for most of the afternoon. Mesoanalysis indicated there was some residual capping and forcing was not as pronounced as farther north by a triple point.

By 7 p.m. or so, I knew it was too late to get up to the Red River storms, so I had to stay committed south. Several storms in a cluster looked elevated to the naked eye and showed little organization on radar.

Finally, around 8 p.m., as the sun had set and I was about to head home, a few storms on the back of the cluster started to display supercellular characteristics. I struggled to find any clear areas to watch the storms, but managed to set up after taking an exit off of I-20.

It can be frustrating to choose the wrong target, but I always try to remain positive and see if I can salvage something. In this case I did not leave empty handed.

Kudos to all of the chasers who captured tornadoes tonight!
