Quite a serious derecho is still in progress, now extending across much of WV, PA, and into MD, although it appears to be fully dissipating now. This derecho has left quite a path of destruction in it's wake. Winds up up to 110 mph were estimated in Story, Polk, Marshall, and Tama counties in Iowa from this (see http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=dmx&storyid=70657&source=0). The winds tore down the radar dish belonging to WHO-TV in Des Moines.

Most of the damage around Detroit was minor. (But a lot of power lines are down.) I work in Dearborn, MI and there wasn't much to be seen as the storm came through. Mostly just a wall of zero visibility rain advancing then high winds. Our building was fine, but there was a large tree that came down nearby. Photos here. One person was killed near Grand Rapids, but the storm seemed to lose some strength as it came across to Detroit.
