On January 11, 1898, the storm formed southwest of Fort Smith Arkansas near ten P.M. but with no warning systems in place, it seemed as if a normal thunderstorm was coming. By 1152 P.M. the tornado had entered the city and was destroying anything in its path. Horses, buggies, and people were being thrown by the tornado as it launched its assault on Fort Smith Arkansas.
