2011 Storm Chasing Events

SEASON SUMMARY: Several major outbreaks in the Plains, most centered over Oklahoma, provided significant tornado intercept opportunities for chasers. Outside of the Plains, the big event was the Dixie Alley event of April 27, the second “Super Outbreak” of tornadoes in US history.

  • April 14, 2011: Tushka, Oklahoma tornado**
  • April 16, 2011: North Carolina tornado outbreak**
  • April 19, 2011: Gerard and Litchfield, Illinois tornadoes**
  • April 22, 2011: St. Louis, Missouri Good Friday Tornadoes
  • April 27, 2011: Dixie Alley Super Outbreak
  • May 21, 2011: Ada, Oklahoma tornado**
  • May 22, 2011: Joplin, Missouri and Zena, Oklahoma tornadoes**
  • May 24, 2011: Oklahoma tornado outbreak: El Reno, Canton, Chickasha**
  • May 25, 2011: Missouri/Illinois tornado outbreak**
  • August 18, 2011: Ewing, Nebraska tornado**
  • November 27, 2011: Manitou/Snyder/Tipton, Oklahoma tornadoes**
