Storm Chasing Event Archive > Events during the 1980s >

Storm chasing grew notably in popularity during the 1980s. The 1985 NOVA special Tornado! brought one of the first major publicity events to the activity. By the end of the decade, dozens of chasers were regularly making the trek to the Great Plains to document storms, and the number of events captured grew with each passing year.
