Craig Maire II

An MD has just been issued for potions of eastern Nebraska, north central Kansas and western Iowa, a severe thunderstorm watch will likely be issued soon. Also, thunderstorms are now developing in west central Iowa west of Denison.

These storms are strengthining and now some severe storms in NE. Craig are you chasing today? It does not look good for tornadoes does anyone think we could see some tornadoes today?

Looks like they are firing off the CF.

To all who chase have fun!

Thunderstorm also now beginning to fire in NE. Warnings out for Burt and Washington Co as well as Kearney Co NE. Quarter size hail possible with the storm in Kearney Co. I dont think we are going to see any tornadoes today although wont be surprised if someone snags a few gustnadoes, those are always fun on days like these especially if your in the right place at the right time.

A close look at the Grand Island and Omaha radars clearly show that the storms are behind the cold front/OFB, so tornado chances are minimal. However, there could be a few decently structured storms.

Craig Maire reports nickel to 1" diameter hail in Hamilton county IA, and lots of turbulence in the updrafts. I asked him if there's a cool shelf cloud, but he says no.

Though I highly doubt any tornadic activity I would assume your best bet would be the cell that is in Hamilton county, IA. It is isolated and is right moving. Also it isn't linear at least on radar. I still wouldn't expect anything other than maybe...maybe a very brief tornado.

Yeah, I just heard from Craig a little while ago as well and I let him know we had about the same thing up in NE IA and we caught a little nickel sized right after I got off the phone with him. Nothing exciting up here and we are on the road back to MCW to meet up with the next line and sample it as well. Certainly, no cool shelf's today though and nothing to speak of a photogenic structure.

Wonder if anyone played the south end along I-70. The Gove county storm looked good for a few scans.

Just got off the phone with Michael Carlson. He said he was on the TOR warned cell in NE CO and he was watching a large updraft and lots of scud and major inflow as well. He also punched the core and said it was very strong especially the winds.

Curently in Concordia Kansas, lots of lightning activity but mostly CC. Long drive down from Montana today, chased purely on sight as I was deperate to get south of the front - never did, but still hooked up onto the line that developed NW of Grand Island. Went through a few severe warned counties - lightning and several patches of small hail were the main interest.

Show not over yet, but severe potential is limited - having said that - penny size hail has just stated here !
