Hope your Christmas was a holly, jolly one... unfortunately, some residents in Fla. weren't in a very jolly mood after severe weather rampaged across the central and northern parts of the state today
Monitoring the SPC Logs thisevening, a couple of damaging tornadoes occurred in the Tampa area and close to Daytona Beach. Preliminary reports suggest a couple of injuries, not sure how serious, several homes "uninhabitable" according to storm reports. At least one of the tornadoes had a preliminary rating of F2. I noticed earlier thisafternoon a fairly potent squall line was trekking across the state.. a few strong rogue cells were developing ahead of the line but I'm not sure if thise were the storms that caused the tornadoes. Shear ahead of the system was fairly impressive but I did'nt get too deep into analyzing much about the scenario for that area. SPC did have a TOR watch for a good part of the central and southern sections of the state.
I did talk with my kids who live in Gainesville and they said nothing much happened there when the storms came through early thismorning. Lets hope the people affected in todays storms will get back on their feet in short order.
