Roger Hill offers his opinions on the influx of new chasers. Screenshot of the Amarillo area is included from a Tweet. I know this was discussed in another thread recently so I thought it would be beneficial to those interested in that event.
Several news stories locally here in OKC on "chase convergence" and gridlock. They have added the fact of flash flooding occurring Monday and Tuesday (May 20th-21st) and chasers getting stuck or having no escape route available. The news continues to say that storm chasing "tourists" visit Oklahoma this time of May and that this "attraction" is a problem for professional and TV chasers trying to get real-time updates to local residents.
These news stories will continue and hopefully today will not add any tragedies/fatalities to a concerning problem in our field.
This just in tonight, the first clip from Simon Brewer and Juston Drake pretty much sums up what we have been hearing about with the bad driving. Only quick thinking and situational awareness kept them out of being in a wreck as the idiot in the pickup truck decided it would be a great idea to make a U-Turn on a two lane highway with traffic behind him, in a hail storm.
