That is a great deal but I have a question. I am unfamiliar with Slickdeals but how do you know that you are getting a rebate in the mail? I put all those items in my cart on amazon and I never saw anything about a rebate.

Aaron, you have to actually print out the rebate form that Sean linked to in his post, fill that out and mail it in. Make sure you read the fine print, are within the dates, and qualify before you purchase. You won't see anything about the rebate in your cart. The rebate is a separate deal you do later. The deal isn't through Slickdeals.net either, its through Amazon. Slickdeals.net simply finds the deals.

Very tempting.

Going to have to make a quick decision here.

Was going to buy my first DSLR and this (the 500D) was high on my list... probably top choice. (best fit feature/price wise) The video mode is a bonus since I don't have any decent camcorder currently.

Anybody have anything interesting to say about this camera? Photo or video?

I've read enough... know it's very solid.

Guess my bigger question might be: any reason to think I might get a better deal than this by waiting for holiday sales?

I know I'll want to get a high quality wide angle eventually... but to start out...getting two decent/OK lens probably isn't a bad idea.

I ended up just picking one up locally last night. I didn't need the printer and got a good deal. Right out of the box it is amazing. Read the specs and reviews at Best Buy or Amazon. People who have shot this and the Nikon
D5000 really prefer the Canon.

There is no mention in the offer of the lens. But if you go to Amazon and look for the camera or go to the Amazon link in the OP you can see the camera/lens package.

Its a great deal I would recommend it. Even though the efs 18-55 lens is a crappy lens.

The deal is ok, But I would suggest selling the others and getting at least a good lens. I wish I would have done that my first camera.

I would sell the printer and lens, and get a decent lens I might even sell the filter for a decent 400 dollar len or so. Camera bodys themselves arent badly priced. 500-600 get a decent body. Then spend 400 or so on a good lens and your all set. Thats what I did

Lens are tricky! You want a good one! Newegg has a deal right now on T1is which is the best I've seen so far! Great camera, for what its worth! The lens is tricky, I would suggest at first buying a mid way lens which could run you 400 dollars or so. And waiting for the better ones. Unless you can afford one? Bodys are around 600 and good lens are around 600 so your looking at 1200 dollars before tax. About 1300 probably and thats alot. But youll be set after that. Wide angle lens come in more handy than zooms at first IMO. But you can upgrade from there.

So forget about printers and such as well as filters. Id focus on software after the main camera purchase. Which if you go T1i, youd have basic video covered or so Ive heard! The video isnt great but its definitly a start!

Thats not to shaby, dispite what Ive heard! From there you can see lots of other extras! Some are really quite sharp, sharper than I would have thought. wow. it dosent do bad in the right light and given you know what your doing! Of course dont forget thats a good lens. If you have a decent lens on her besides, the crappy 18-55 you'd probably get good video!
