Default Typhoon Mirinae

I'm out here with James Reynolds in Manila, Philippines. We just finished filming Typhoon Mirinae that hit early this am and went until about 9am local time. We both flew into Manila and didn't have to travel far as Mirinae hit just a few miles south of our motel. The motel we are staying at is on generator power and internet is real slow but here are some pics from today. We came up on an area called Cupang about 15km SE of downtown Manila right on the water.

These men were trying to retreive the bamboo poles that were the foundation to their nearby homes. The typhoon was full on at the time

The kids get to higher ground surrounded by water lillies and survey the damage. They knew how to walk across the water lillies - a real trick as I found out when I tried to cross over them to get a better shot. I told the guy with the hat to save the camera first ! It's a Canon 5Dmark II

We fly out tomorrow - James back to Hong Kong and I go back to Guam - my forward base camp for this crazy typhoon season in the WPac. James was interviewed by CNN International and they aired some of the footage we shot. This trip was a whole lot of fun - the people here in the Philippines are just wonderful.

Super great coverage Jim....I think I smell a huge documentary/film/DVD in the works post season with all the action you've got in 09. Don't forget to stay safe and get back stateside in one piece.

I hear yeah about the folks out in that part of the world...and hoping the best for them as they have to recover from all the damage and flooding, etc. from such an active season.

Hello.

I'm back safely in Hong Kong now after a very successful trip with Jim covering Mirinae.

Despite the storm falling apart before landfall we managed to get some pretty dramatic footage (including Jim's little dip in the lake!)

Here's what I just put online - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx7_Qiy7Lok

James...didn't realize you were on ST too. Yeah man...great stuff. I'm certainly going to have to learn some basic language skills for the WPAC...and join you guys in a year or two...see all the footage and hear how great the people are...sounds like a great chase experience and story to capture.
